| July 25, 2008 Plymouth County voters have elected more Republicans to county and state offices than any other county in Massachusetts, but to be even more successful we need your participation. Many Republicans in Massachusetts have chosen to sit on the sidelines because they believe it is futile to try to fight the massive Democrat Party machine but in Plymouth County Republicans get elected to state and county offices. In Plymouth County we elect Republicans even though like every other county in the state we are far outnumbered by Democrats. Current offices held by Republicans in Plymouth County include State Senator Robert Hedlund, and Representatives Daniel Webster, Susan Williams Gifford and Vinny deMacedo as well as Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Sheriff Joseph McDonald. The ballots in Plymouth County are clearly marked with an “R” next to the names of our candidates so they are not hiding the fact they are Republicans and tricking voters into voting for them by pretending to be Democrats. What are they doing then? Well, the first thing that comes to mind is that our candidates don’t try to fool voters at all. They tell voters who they are and what they stand for and what they intend to accomplish when they are elected and then they let the voters decide who is best qualified for the position. This novel approach has resulted in winning elections and we encourage all candidates to follow this successful model. We especially encourage Democrats to tell voters what they really stand for because when voters have a clear choice and know exactly where each candidate stands on important issues they will not blindly cast their vote for an “R” or a “D” but will instead vote for the person who best represents their views and values on issues they consider important. In Plymouth County our candidates win because the voters can’t ignore the fact that they agree with them on the issues because they know who we are and where we stand on the issues that are important to them. Today with painfully higher costs for gasoline and food and home heating you would think the liberal legislators on Beacon Hill would try to make things better for people by spending less and lowering our taxes so we can pay for higher food and energy costs, but instead they say they need more and more of our money. And to make matters worse we know that Democrats are largely responsible for higher gasoline prices because they won’t drill for oil or build nuclear plants or let us operate clean coal plants because they are afraid of a small group of people who use suspect science to support their outrageous claims. We know our food prices are rising higher and higher because we are burning food to make fuel and reaching our long term goal of energy independence does not require burning food. We know that if people are cold or hungry or can’t afford to drive it is in large part because of terribly misguided government policies and we see that liberal Democrats simply don’t care because their failed ideology is more important than our quality of life. If we are hungry or cold or can’t drive it is okay as long as they gain more power over our lives because total government control over all facets of our lives is what they seek in the name of saving the planet or some other cause that only total government control can solve. Maybe one of the reasons we elect Republicans in Plymouth County is because of our history going all the way back to the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims were the first group in America to adopt Republican values because they learned firsthand that the Socialist model did not work. The investment group that backed the Pilgrims and financed their settlement in America forced them to pool all of their goods in a communal arrangement because they thought it would help them get their money back faster. Our current state legislature seems determined to force the residents of Plymouth County and the rest of the state to adopt a Socialist model and like the Pilgrims we know it simply won’t work. Governor Bradford was able to convince the investors back in London that the Pilgrims needed some land for their private use and once adopted that policy proceeded to show much greater success than the communal experiment. Republicans have always known and supported the capitalist economic model while most liberal Democrats have always believed the socialist model would work great if it was just implemented properly. So while the Pilgrims didn’t call themselves Republicans they certainly talked and acted like Republicans so we will claim them as the first Republicans in America making the Plymouth County Republican Club the oldest Republican Club in America. Once the Pilgrims denounced their Liberal Democratic ways and adopted Republican values they were very successful and it set the stage for everything good that followed in America. Today, despite the obvious lessons of history liberal Democrats want to give Socialism another try. No matter how many times it fails they just keep trying to make this failed concept work. They won’t be happy until they take all of our money and we must depend on them for all of our needs. Then they will have complete control over our lives because “they know what is best.” Does anyone doubt that the insatiable appetite of the taxing authorities at every level of government here in Massachusetts will result in them taking every dollar we make someday and even that won’t be enough? They must spend every waking hour searching for ways to raise taxes and fees and tolls of every kind imaginable and when we protest we are called heartless because their cause is always more important than our need for our own money. Where does that leave us? Are we today’s Pilgrims having a socialist model forced on us? Are we so outnumbered by liberal Democrats who seem unable to see their folly that we can never overcome this failed model? Many Republicans seem resigned to that outcome and believe the matter settled and say we should just make the most of it and take small victories where we can find them. Here in Plymouth County we aren’t so sure the matter is settled but without your support and participation it won’t be easy to remain successful. The voters of Plymouth County have not forgotten their history and they know that our government functions best when more than one point of view is heard. We haven’t forgotten the lessons the Pilgrims learned more than three hundred and fifty years ago and that is why we elect competent leaders who work on behalf of their constituents. It has never been more important to keep our current Republican officials in office and find more of them to run and get elected because we need their common sense to change the direction of this state. We need elected officials who care and put the needs of people above ideology. We need more candidates in other Massachusetts counties too who aren’t afraid to give voters a clear choice because people are ready to listen and the Democrats know it. The people of Massachusetts know the Democrats have turned their backs on them and their only answer to every question is to take more of our money and spend it foolishly, but we must give them a clear choice. If you agree with the Pilgrims and you want less government control and a legislature that puts your needs first and not a failed socialist ideology then join our club and help us change the color of this state from blue to red.
