BURBINE TO SEEK REPRESENTATIVE SEAT

ABINGTON, MASS., March 6, 2006—Andy Burbine of Abington has announced he is a candidate for the Republican nomination for state representative in the district, which includes the towns of Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman.
Burbine, 45, seeks the House seat being vacated by Kathleen Teahan.  In 2002 Burbine challenged Teahan for the seat.  “Our 2002 campaign was very positively received by the voters.  When Mrs. Teahan announced she would not be running for re-election I received strong encouragement from family, friends and supporters to enter the race for state representative.  I look forward to running a positive race based on the issues that affect the people of the district such as fiscal responsibility, taxes, public safety and education.”
A lifelong resident of Abington, Burbine has been a practicing attorney since 1990 and has a law office in Holbrook.  Burbine has been actively involved in local government for over 20 years.  He served as Abington’s Town Moderator from 1995 until 2002.  Burbine was also a member of the Abington School Committee from 1985 to 1991 and the Abington Finance Committee from 1991 to 1995, serving as chairman in 1993-1994.  Since leaving the Town Moderator position he has served on the town’s Charter Review and By-Law Review Committees.  In 1998 he was appointed by Governor Cellucci to serve as a member of the Massasoit Community College Board of Trustees and in 2005 Governor Romney reappointed him to the Board.  In 2000, Burbine served as Plymouth County Register of Probate.
Burbine has long been a strong voice on important local issues, particularly in the areas of fiscal policy and education.  Andy Burbine seeks a seat in the Massachusetts legislature to put his experience to work for the people of Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman.  He brings a deep background in municipal finance and will focus his efforts in the legislature on protecting the taxpayer and ensuring fiscal responsibility in the state budget process.  Burbine knows that towns rely heavily on local aid to provide police and fire protection to their citizens.  As state representative he “will work hard to make sure Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman receive their fair share of local aid so that public safety is not compromised.”  As a strong proponent of education he will push for support and programs that will strengthen the public schools and public higher education.
Burbine has strong roots in the district.  He is a lifelong resident of Abington, as is his wife, Carolyn, who is an Assistant District Attorney for Plymouth County.  They have two children, Jonathan (9) and Matthew (7).  Burbine has been active in Abington youth sports programs coaching his sons’ soccer and basketball teams.  Burbine’s parents and grandparents were all raised and schooled in Whitman.  “Carolyn and I made a conscious decision to raise our family and make our home here in Abington because of all this area has to offer.  I will work tirelessly as state representative to make sure this district continues to be a great place to live, raise a family and retire.  The people of Abington, East Bridgewater and Whitman deserve to have their interests represented and their voices heard on Beacon Hill.  As your representative I will be accountable and responsive and I will always remember that it is the people of the 7th Plymouth District that I represent.”
Candidate Burbine along with family, friends and supporters are looking forward to Sunday, March 12 when they will be riding on a float in Abington’s annual St. Patrick’s Day parade. “More than 25 years ago, I took part in Abington’s first St. Patrick’s Day parade with a group of co-workers from Trucchi’s Supermarket.  It is traditions such as these that make this district such a great place to live.”
On April 13, Burbine’s campaign committee hosts a campaign kick-off at 6:30 PM at the Whitman Knights of Columbus Hall, 1195 Bedford Street, Whitman.  The public is welcome.  For more information on the kick-off or to help the Committee to Elect Andy Burbine please call 781-878-1786 or visit www.AB06.net.
