January 11, Republicans know how to party (January 6, 2005 = Hingham Journal)

The first annual Christmas Gala of the recently formed Plymouth-Norfolk District Republican Town Committees coalition (GOP 8) was held at the Neighborhood Club of Quincy, Wednesday evening, Dec. 29.
The festive dinner event was attended by more than 100 of the party faithful from Hingham, Weymouth, Scituate, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hull, Norwell and Marshfield and included GOP dignitaries such as Plymouth County Sheriff-elected Joseph McDonald, Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz and Sen. Robert L. Hedlund (R-Weymouth) as well as recent Weymouth GOP State Rep. candidate Doug Veeder and his wife Stephanie.
John P. Cafferty of Hingham and Polly Logan of Cohasset represented the Republican State Committee.
Ann P. Collins, chairwoman of the Hingham Republican Town Committee, organized this year's successful inaugural dinner/dance gala.
Blanche Hanson Clark and her Swinging Seniors Band provided '40s music. The Happy Hoofers, a dance and tambourine group headed by Elaine Dowgos, provided entertainment with a musical skit.
Clark then gave a rendition of "When You're Good to Mama" from "Chicago," the musical, and one of the five bandsmen sang Tony Bennett's "I Left My Heart in San Francisco." All brought a lot of laughter and enjoyment to the many attendees.
The gala was well received and there is talk of the GOP 8 getting together on a quarterly or possibly a monthly schedule with a charitable or community service theme. Plymouth-Norfolk District Republican State Committeeman Cafferty has been working since his election to put together what seems to be a very cohesive partnership and camaraderie by and of the GOP 8 town committees.
